Guidance for Displaced People

The European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) has published guidance and infromation for people with bleeding disorders leaving Ukraine due to the ongoing conflict. We have outlined some of the key points below, but more can be found on their website.

It is important that everyone leaving Ukraine has all of their medical documents with them. The EHC also strongly suggests that people leaving Ukraine complete a designated form to ensure that they are taken care of in the country of their destination. The form can be accessed here.

Many of the EHC’s national member organisations (NMOs) are supporting people with bleeding disorders who have fled Ukraine and will continue to do so. In addition to the support provided by NMOs, regional treatment centre locations can be found at www.hclocator.org/

EHC Emergency Displacement Fund

The EHC have also made available a short-term funding stream to help support European haemophilia centres that are dealing with the direct displacement of people with a bleeding disorder and their families.

The funding is intended to haemophilia societies to supply critical items for displaced people with bleeding disorders entering their country and coming under their care, such as:

  • Travel to a town/city with a haemophilia centre
  • Initial accommodation if required (for a maximum of 14 days) while receiving bleeding disorder care
  • Provision for communications with treatment centres (e.g. call charges, calling cards, power banks etc.)
  • Non-prescription medicines (excluding factor or non-factor concentrates)
  • Medical equipment (e.g., feminine hygiene products, crutches, mobility aids)
  • Provision of psychosocial support for families

More information on how to access this fund is available on the EHC website.

The Haemophilia Society has launched an emergency fundraising appeal to help raise additional money for this fund. You can donate to our appeal below.
